I Thought I would have daylilies blooming by the first week in May. It will be earlier than that. I found several scapes on Stella D'oro yesterday.

When checking my notes in the past I've noticed my first scapes around April 11 here in Dallas.  I'm anxiously awaiting those little scapes!!  Can't wait!

For the last week I've been finding scapes on daylilies other than Stella D'Oro. Nothing has started blooming yet, and the weather has turned cool again so everything is slow.
The cool weather is probably saving some plants. It was way too dry during the warmer weather. I have established shrubs that are wilting and the burmuda is already browning out. I broke out the hoses a week ago and started watering the landscape plants.
{We finally got 1/2" of much needed rain last night. }

The first blooms appeared today on Stella D'Oro. It may be another week before something else begins.

The  first seedling bloom opened yesterday. It is a nocturnal that starts opening about mid-day and is fully open the next morning. We had a well needed thunderstorm last night which ruined the bloom.
I thought I would experiment with posting a photo to see how it works on the new web host.
The thumbnail above takes you to the photo in my Webshots gallery.
I'll work on finding how to get the full sized photo to show.

Ok, I got the larger shot now.
No this is not the bloom that was ruined last night. This photo is from last year.

Getting some much needed rain here too!  I've got a clump of one of the species that is ready to pop open - always the first to bloom.  Not seeing any other scapes.  Kinda glad things slowed down a bit.
Good idea to try and figure out how to post pics.

In past years this spider has bloomed later than most of my daylilies. It was potted until the end of the bloom season last year when I put it in the ground. It has responded by doubling in clump size and adding several inches on the scape. I don't know the variety. This was purchased from a grower who did not have his plants labeled.
